    Slight aside. I had to uninstall Win 7 and reinstall Vista because the school's exam software didn't support Win 7.

    I now know what everyone was bitching about. I hate you Vista. I miss you Win 7. Please come back after exams :( #microsoft

    Some one suggested it at the time too. I wasn't 100% sure how to do it and I didn't really want to complicate an already frustrating event. I started to but chickened out.

    Now that I think about it wasn't there a Vista compatibility program packaged with Win 7? Shit, should have tried that too. #microsoft

    @tande04: I hope you have better concentration with your studies and you pass your exams. Using compatibility mode is highly easy to use and 100% less drastic than removing an entire operating system. Search google for an answer next time. #microsoft

    @joncoffee: No I don't actually. I'm sitting on Giz. Thanks for caring though.

    Google or not I'm going to stick with my way of doing it. Even though I'd admittedly didn't even think about it at the time I don't think that compatibility mode would have worked now that I'm talking it out with people. The whole point of the software is to keep other things from running on the computer so I doubt a virtual version of windows would have worked out. Plus (even assuming that it would work) I'm sure that compatibility mode works great and all but since the whole point is to keep me from having to handwrite the thing I'd hate for something to happen midway and get stuck handwriting the thing after all was said and done.

    It may have been the more drastic option and may be a sucky option but in the end I'm sure it was the safer option. #microsoft

    @tande04: Compatibility mode is pretty good actually. And sorry to say, it's sometimes not a bad idea to admit that "your way" may actually not be the best to stick with, because in this case, it really wasn't.

    EDIT: Came across snarkier than I intended to, sorry.

    @tande04: nah, it's not really a virtual OS as it is just a setting that allows it. You don't have to boot into it or anything. It basically tricks the OS and is stable at that. give it a whirl next time. You'll be stoked that it probably worked without having to install an entire diff. OS and saving you much time in the process.

    @chapoec: Hey, Asshat: instead of commenting here, bad mouthing someone forming an opinion, perhaps you should realize that something as important as an exam shouldn't be left to chance. And the fact that when you first set up Win 7, it doesn't guide you through and specific tutorials might have made it a little hard to justify trying to finagle a new OS when grades and a degree are on the line.

    I'm sure you're a Windows 7 master who could run fucking circles around us, but some of us would rather use an OS we know for the important things rather than early adopt and get screwed on accident. Tande04 did what was right by him, and you coming in here calling him stupid and being a Microsoft apologist isn't winning you any points, pal. #microsoft

    @E30Kid: Yep. Thats what I figured to. I hadn't had a problem with anything in the past so when I ran it and it said "Windows 7 not supported" I was a little surprised.

    @Asherek: Pfft. Thats not snarky at all by Giz standards. And yes, I still stick by that it was the best decision in the end. Windows 7 is not supported and if I fucked myself in the end by trying to get around it I just would have been pissed.

    @JYHASH: Yep my point exact. Not going to try and get around it. I'm going to stick with what I know would work.

    @et al.: I almost want to reinstall Win 7 and try compatibility mode just so I can prove one way or the other if it would or wouldn't work. I've got a lot to do but spite is a strong motivator. #microsoft

    And this is why I love having access to Volume Licensing. Clean, untouched copies of all my favorite software... and keys to go with 'em.

    Anyone up for the 'gold master' of XP Pro, with vulnerabilities up the wazoo pre-configured? =P

    Seriously, I wouldn't pirate software such as Windows off the 'net. God knows what they've snuck into the CD until after the fact... and having hundreds of "custom" editions out there doesn't help. No, I do not want 'XP Black Edition', just give me damn XP Professional. #microsoft

    @Nathan Obbards: Because most people are ultra proud of what they like and choose to buy, and on each side, there are users that find weaknesses and faults with/in the competition.

    Windows sucks, windows crashes all the time, windows runs on cheap, plastic computers, windows is a 200 'update', etc.

    OSX sucks, macs are overpriced, you can't do as much on osx as on windows, it takes so long for apple to fix bugs, etc.

    It's been back and forth for decades and it'll be back and forth for decades to come. #billgates
